Atyrau University of Oil and Gas is a specialized state university of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which provides training for specialists in the oil and gas industry, located in Atyrau. It was founded in 1980. In 1999, for the first time in Kazakhstan, in order to increase the level of training of specialists and to concentrate scientific and technical potential for solving urgent problems in the oil and gas industry, the university and the research institute were merged: Atyrau Institute of Oil and Gas and the Institute of Chemistry of Oil and Natural Salts and the Atyrau Institute of Oil was established and gas (Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 869 dated June 28, 1999). From the day the institute was founded until July 21, 2011, the university was headed by a doctor of chemical sciences, professor, academician of the International Engineering Academy and the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Serikov, Tuleush Pauedenovich. On July 25, 2016, by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Atyrau Institute of Oil and Gas received the status of the Atyrau University of Oil and Gas.
